3rd World

I was in class last night, – yes, I’m still in school, but almost done – and my instructor said “Canada, Mexico and other 3rd World Countries”. After class I had to ask him what he meant by 3rd World Countries. I said, “So, what exactly is a 3rd world country?” He said, “Well, it’s mainly used to describe those countries that are technologically and economically inferior and are still considered to be developing countries.” (or something to that effect) I’m like, “So, Canada is a 3rd World Country?” He said, “No.” and then another person in class repeated the instructors quote along with me. The Instructor is like, “Oh, well I didn’t mean Canada.”

So, I’ve got an instructor that doesn’t think before he speaks. Great.

The Third World definition has changed over the years but was coined by some French guy named Alfred Suavy (sounds like a fake name).
