I like long hair, fashion crazed outcasts, people who aren’t afraid to push the “normal” envelope. But, why boys, why? They are everywhere — these boys in tight girl pants. Why? They look horrible. Last night we were at Sonic and a nice jeep pulled up beside us. 3 young men got out of the car and I noticed they were wearing women’s jeans. One boy was wearing a pair slouched on his hips that he had cut into long shorts. I have those same jeans at home in my closet. It was slightly disturbing. Maybe it’s a generational thing, or maybe they don’t realize that women’s jeans are made differently and the waist is smaller and so they don’t fit right, but it just looks so wrong! The hair, cut in awkward angles with funky colors, the clothes, it was all wrong. Maybe boys like to look pretty – but it was not working, like they were trying way too hard. Maybe I just don’t really get it. Maybe it’s a nod to the punk scene from the 80’s, but if it is, they aren’t quite there. If I was a teenage girl, I don’t think I would like this new “boy”. The strange thing was, that these were fairly good looking guys, if you could get beyond the “I’m making a statement that is not quite working, look”. If you have to work to look that bad, you probably shouldn’t. It was just really yucky and confusing.
